MARS HILL, Maine – Mary E. Lawrence went home to our Heavenly father on Feb. 14, 2018. For all of the loved ones she left behind, we will always fondly remember her quick wit, her humorous anecdotes about small town life in Mars Hill, and above all else, her care and deep love of family.
Mary was born in Fort Fairfield on June 9, 1923, daughter of Mildred G. (Wright) Willard McShea, and was a step-daughter of Ralph Willard. She married Gerald W. Lawrence of Mars Hill, on June 9, 1942, in Hartford, CT. Their only child, James P. Lawrence, was born in Hartford, CT.
After the war, they moved back to Mars Hill and shared a wonderful marriage of 69 years. Mary was always dedicated to her family and home. She knitted multitudes of mittens and socks for many of her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed many hobbies and was an excellent knitter, seamstress, hairdresser, and cook. She enjoyed camping, bowling, square dancing, golfing, and her beautiful flower garden. She also enjoyed visiting her son, James, in Boston.
In addition to her mother and step-father, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, and her son, James, and half-sister, Joann Webb. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life and of her son James’ life will be conducted in the spring at King’s Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill. Online condolences may be expressed atĀ www.duncan-graves.com.
