PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Marie Joyce McIntyre Bates passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Marie was born in Presque Isle, ME, daughter of Ferd and Hazel Morehouse McIntyre on March 16, 1928.

She loved life and her family. You would often see her with her sisters, Blanche, Pauline, and Thelma, and nieces, Bunny and Pam, through the week doing their errands and having lunch. St. Froid was a special place as these ladies, “The Golden Girls”, would play cards, dance, and laugh. They all loved each other very much! She held many trophies for bowling and was a master seamstress and loved to crochet. Marie worked for Shelick Bag Company, was a Potato Harvest worker, and a stay a home mom and wife.
She is survived by her son, Edward Bates and wife, Pat Ellis Bates; daughter, Gloria Bates Fletcher and husband, John; daughter, Cheryl Bates Holton and husband, Randy; brother, Reggie McIntyre; sisters, Pauline McIntyre Willett, Thelma McIntyre Parks, Charlotte McIntyre Lowe of Florida, and sister-in-law, Christine Bates Gilmour; grandchildren, Kurt and Lori Beaulieu Bates; Marty and Destiny Billings Bates, Julie Fletcher Mibroda of State College, PA; Jennifer Fletcher and Casey Smith; Angela Fletcher Monson and Billy Monson of Paradise, Utah; Stephanie Holton Graves and Ryan Graves; Earl D. Bates III of CT; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Earl D. Bates; son, Earl D. Bates, Jr.; brothers, Harold McIntyre, Albert McIntyre, and Edward McIntyre; sisters, Marilyn McIntyre Wallace, and Blanche McIntyre Browne; and sister-in-law, Joyce Bates Fletcher.
Friends and family may call at 12 noon on February 21, 2018, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. A reception will be held after the service at the Hampton Inn, Presque Isle. Interment will be in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
