AUGUSTA, Maine — On Tuesday, February 20, Jonathan Fulford, a Democrat running for Congress in Maine’s 2nd congressional district, filed 1,204  certified and verified Democratic party member signatures with the Secretary of State’s office in Augusta, exceeding the required number of signatures to get on the ballot for the June primary. Petition gathering began on January 1st.

Fulford said, “Democratic voters from 103 towns in all 11 counties of Maine’s 2nd district signed these petitions. We are proud of the strong grassroots effort to our campaign put together in such a short amount of time. Mainers are energized in this election and ready to elect leaders who won’t bow to the special interests, who will always put the people of Maine first. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of volunteers and supporters across this district who are fighting to make their voices heard .”

The campaign had more than four dozen people circulating petitions, going door to door in their communities, collecting signatures at candidate forums and outside polling places during town votes, at the Women’s March in Bangor, on the University of Maine campus in Orono, and in front of the Belfast and Blue Hill Co-Ops on some of the coldest days of the past weeks.

Fulford added, “I encourage Democratic voters to attend their town caucus on Sunday, March 4. It’s important for citizens to make up their own minds about who will represent the working people in Maine and will have their support in the general election.” Phil Bailey, Fulford’s campaign manager said, “Jonathan is the real deal. He is the working class candidate we need this election. He’s waging an aggressive campaign that is powered for and by working people.   He cannot be bought by corporate interests, and that’s why we’re seeing a groundswell of grassroots momentum for his campaign.”

Jonathan Fulford has a construction company in Maine’s 2nd District. Prior to starting his own home building business, Fulford was a farmer.  He is running on a platform that creates an economy that works for everyone, provides all Americans with high quality health care and creates good-paying jobs by finding solutions to climate change.
