LA CRESCENTA, CA – Joan Elissa (Patten) Sealander passed away unexpectedly at home on Jan. 2 at the age of 85 with her husband by her side. She was born on Sept. 6, 1932 in Perham, Maine to Harry and Melissa Patten. She met the love of her life, Leland Sealander, in sixth grade growing up in Perham, Maine. They were married on Dec. 28, 1947. In 1959, they moved from Maine to La Crescenta, CA.
On Dec. 28, 2017 they celebrated 68 years together. The devotion they had for each other was evident always and in the later years, when our mother needed out father the most, he willingly stepped in and took care of his beloved bride with such care and devotion. As his children, we could not be more blessed to have him as our dad and for the love he showed our mother.
Joan is survived by her husband Leland; children Trudy, James, Gregory Sealander, Michael Sealander, Debbie Peterson and Tricia Moreash; as well as her sisters Betty Allen, and Nancy Bubar. Joan was not only a great mother and friend to many, she also had 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Some of her best 13 years were spent being Bible study fellowship leader where she touched many women’s lives. A graveside service was held for her family on Jan. 11 where she was laid to rest at the Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Services were officiated by her grandson, Jacob Sealander.
A celebration of life took place on Feb. 24 at the La Crescenta First Baptist Church.
