Left the area — Miss Eva Hackett, who has been employed as bookkeeper for Dr. F. W. Mitchell during the past two years, left for Boston where she will study voice culture.
Attending show — H. G. Dibblee and Fleetwood Pride are in Boston attending the Auto Show this week.
75 Years Ago – Mar. 11, 1943
Elected — Hazen R. Nevers was elected cashier of the First National Bank of Houlton at a meeting of the Board of directors. George E. Roach was named trust officer and assistant cashier and J. Frederick Donald and Dwight Webber were named assistant cashiers.
Winner of contest — Miss Henrietta Robinson of the Houlton Grange store was this morning declared the winner of the contest sponsored by the Houlton Chamber of Commerce for the clerk in any local store selling the most war stamps in a five-week period. Miss Robinson sold stamps with a dollar value of $237.95 during the contest period and was far out in front of all other contenders. In all, the Grange store sold stamps in the value of $326.45. MIss Robinson will be awarded the prize of a $25 war bond offered to the winner of the contest.
50 Years Ago – Mar. 6, 1968
Candidate — Willis O. Grimm announced that he will be a Republican candidate for the office of County sheriff in the June primary elections.
Winner — The Odd Follows won the Dunn Cup for the first time by defeating both the Elks and Dux Clubs.
25 Years Ago – Mar. 10, 1993
Service Award — Rhonda Foster, medical social worker, receives the traditional service award plaque and silver bowl at a recent farewell coffee held in her honor. Barbara Bossie, administrative assistant and Ruth Hagan, director of social services, were both on-hand for the presentation. Rhonda was honored by Houlton Regional Hospital for service over seven years in the social work field. Rhonda resides in Littleton with her husband, Merle, and their two children, Callie and Ethan.
Border award-winner — Ethel Mersereau, secretary for the Immigration Service at the Houlton Port of Entry, received the Professionalism, Objectivity and Motivation award from Eugene Fitzpatrick, district director, George Woodward, area director was also present.
