Caribou rec has openings

CARIBOU — Off the beaten path is a good way to describe the unique recreational experience available at the Caribou Rec.Department. It’s call CRX and is now open to more than just Caribou youngsters.

Neal Sleeper, program director, says summer CRX, or Caribou Rec Extreme, programming is available for all area youths entering grades 7 through 10.

CRX is an outdoor-based program with an emphasis on encouraging individuals to lead a healthier lifestyle. Activities include hiking, fishing, kayaking, camping and two Katahdin adventures.

Sleeper says in addition to teaching kids the fundamentals associated with these activities, CRX teaches participants to different life skills and introduces them to some of the most beautiful spots in Aroostook, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.

There are resident and non-resident fees, which apply for each activity. For more information, call 493-4224.
