Arts center receives $1,000 MCF grant

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —The directors of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded another $1,000 advised grant to the Wintergreen Arts Center.

The grant was made from a component fund of the MCF. Advised grants are made from funds established by individuals who make recommendations from time to time as to how the income and or principal are spent.  The donor who recommended this grant to Wintergreen gave anonymously.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this grant from a component fund of the Maine Community Foundation,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director.  “This is the second $1,000 advised grant we’ve received in less than a year, and we truly are touched by the individual or individuals who gave anonymously and generously without seeking recognition or asking anything in return.  It represents a special vote of confidence in our programming.”

The grant will support Wintergreen’s Art with HeART program, a summer arts programming initiative to serve youth in public-housing neighborhoods.  The effort pairs volunteer teenage mentors with children for relationship-enriching experiences through art.

Art with HeART was developed by Shaye McHatten, a college sophomore and Wintergreen summer arts instructor.  The program returns this coming summer and will once again play a major role in moving Wintergreen towards the Center’s goal to take art directly to those who may not otherwise be able to get to its 149 State Street location.
