100 Years Ago – March 27, 1918
Change location — Mr. Fred O. Hanagan, who has conducted a Drug Store in the Thibodeau Block for the past five years, will move this week directly across the street to the Sincock Block, in the store formerly occupied by Lowry’s Grocery, next to the Elks’ Home. This move was made necessary by the constantly increasing business of the Broadway Pharmacy, who were too crowded in their present location and this change will give them much more room.
New position — A. E. Carter, who has been connected with the Houlton office of the Aroostook Telephone Co., five years as cashier, has resigned to take effect on April 1, and has accepted a position at the Farmers’ National Bank.
75 Years Ago – April 1, 1943
Better than expected — The more than 500 pupils of Houlton High School went into the Jeep buying business in a big way when instead of selling war bonds and stamps enough to buy one Jeep, as was hoped for, they ended up with enough sales to purchase seven of these indispensable little vehicles.
Taking a course — Dr. and Mrs. James F. Palmer left for Boston, where the former will take a 10-day course of instruction from Dr. Joseph B. Rackett, DMD, who is head of the Dental Surgery Club of the Cambridge Municipal Hospital.
50 Years Ago – March 27, 1968
Party — Mrs. Elmer Brown was hostess at a pink and blue shower at her home in honor of Mrs. Emmett Boyd.
Congratulations — Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fitzpatrick received congratulations on the birth of a son, Lee Anthony.
25 Years Ago – March 31, 1993
Special guest — Stanley and Elle Israel, owners of Epstein’s, Inc., were guests of Chris Anderson , CPCU, CIC, vice-president of F. A. Peabody Company. The Israels spoke of Epstein’s history and competitive position in the retail community.
Donation — Burger King donated 20 percent of its Monday night profits, totaling $170, to the Houlton Hockey Association. Attending the check presentation were, E.J. Huck, assistant director of operations of Burger King; Ephraim and Isaac Taylor; Beth Taylor, president of the hockey association and Lisa Bourgoine, manager of Millar Arena.
