RUMFORD, Maine — Several local skiers competed for Team Maine at the New England Nordic Ski Association Eastern High School Championships, held March 16, 17 and 18 at Black Mountain.
Abigail Streinz of Stockholm came in third out of 108 competitors in the five-kilometer freestyle in 12 minutes and 11.8 seconds. Madawaska’s Isabelle Jandreau took 19th in 13:21.2 and Izzy Jackson of Presque Isle was 52nd in 14:21.4.
Kirsten Main of Mars Hill took 76th in 14:54.7 and Dolcie Tanguay of Fort Kent, who skied at MSSM this winter, was 84th in 15:09.1.
In the men’s 5K, Caleb Streinz of Stockholm took 10th out of 118 competitors, finishing in 10 minutes and 51.2 seconds, and Max Bartley of Presque Isle was 67th in 12:13.9.
In the women’s 1.2-kilometer free tech sprint on the second day of competition, Abigail Streinz placed first in 2:53.9. Jandreau was the fifth fastest Maine skier and was 25th in the race with a 3:18.22 clocking, while Jackson was 50th in the standings in 3:27.76.
Tanguay came in 79th in 3:42.85 and Main was 81st in 3:43.91.
For the men, Caleb Streinz was seventh in 2:34.7 and Bartley 48th in 2:51.8.
The men’s 7.5K classical also was held that second day. Caleb Streinz placed 19th out of 115 participants, finishing in 20:58.9. Bartley was 63rd in 23:05.5.
Women raced the same distance and Abigail Streinz was sixth in 24:24.2, Jandreau was 44th in 27:14.1, Jackson 57th in 28:06.1 and Tanguay 74th in 29:03.9. Main placed 79th in 29:20.4.
The 4×3.5K mixed relay completed the weekend competition on March 18. The Streinz siblings were on the top Maine team which finished fourth overall in 32:33.6. Jandreau and Bartley were together on another foursome that placed 23rd in 34:48.9.
Jackson was on the 35th place team, Main on the 44th place team and Tanguay on the 45th place team.
