WILLIAM “BILL” A. BELYEA II, HOULTON – William “Bill” A. Belyea II, 91, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born August 11, 1926, in Monticello, the son of William A. and Mildred (Wotton) Belyea.
Bill grew up in Monticello and attended local schools. He then left school to go to work on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On August 10, 1952, he married Gladys Brewer and together they would raise their six children. Bill worked for twenty nine years at McGillicuddy’s Furniture as a service man for their appliances. He then went on his own doing service and repair work until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed having coffee at Tidd’s, attending Men’s Suppers at local churches. He also treasured the days at camp on Deering Lake and the time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Gladys Belyea of Houlton, six children: Marla Crandall of Oakfield, Becky Crooker and her husband Bob of Cary, Ruth Drake and her husband Wayne of Houlton, Sally Thibeau and her husband Tom of Hermon, William A. “Buz” Belyea III and his wife Suzette of Hodgdon, David Belyea and Jen Foss of Houlton, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters: Barbara Harvey and her husband Francis, Elizabeth Cowperthwaite and her husband Richard all of Monticello, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by an infant son, David’s twin Dennis Belyea, a granddaughter Kimberly Dion, four brothers: Paul Belyea, Ray Belyea, Carl Belyea Charlie Belyea, four sisters: Evelyn Dyer, Phyllis Donatelli, Laura Flewelling, Freda Bailey, and a son-in-law Bruce Crandall
Friends may call 2-4 PM Sunday March 25, 2018 at the Dunn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 11 AM Monday at Military St. Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall. A committal with military honors will take place at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton.
