LEWISTON, Maine — With warmer weather right around the corner, the Maine Appalachian Trail Club welcomes its members and the general public to its annual spring meeting, taking place Saturday, April 14, at Bates College in Lewiston.
Kicking off the 2018 trail season, the meeting will feature updates on Appalachian Trail news and interactive workshops on a range of topics, as well as special guest speaker Suzanne Dixon, the new President and CEO of the national Appalachian Trail Conservancy based in Harpers Ferry, WV.
Planned activities include: conservation stories from The Trust for Public Lands and The Appalachian Trail Land Trust; news from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy with Claire Polfus; trail maintenance workshop with MATC President Lester Kenway; corridor monitoring workshop with longtime MATC volunteer Dave Field; a showing of “My Appalachian Trail Story” film collection; a workshop on identifying bird species along the Appalachian Trail; and a guided discussion on digital electronics for use on the trail.
All workshops are free and open to members of the public interested in meeting and learning from the many seasoned, dedicated volunteers who maintain the Maine section of Appalachian Trail.
