PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Regional Career Technical Center chapter of Future Business Leaders of America competed at the annual state FBLA convention in Portland March 18-20, bringing home several medals.
In addition, chapter newcomer Libby Moreau received the New Member of the Year Award, while local business owner Dave Adams of DASCO received the Business Leader of the Year Award.
Several members received second-place medals during the competition, including: McKenzie Turner in Accounting II, Kerstee Spooner in Chapter Activity Display, Riley Roderick in Electronic Career Portfolio, Libby Moreau and Meghann Collins in Graphic Design, Kacie Chapman in Introduction to FBLA, Gavin Hemphill in Local Chapter Annual Business Report, Kacie Chapman and Libby Moreau in Publication Design, Colby Bonville in Sales Presentation, and Meghann Collins and Molly Kingsbury in Sport and Entertainment Management.
Third-place winners were: Gavin Hemphill in Advertising, Molly Kingsbury in Business Plan, Kacie Chapman in Digital Video Production, Molly Kingsbury in Health Care Administration, Libby Moreau in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures, Austin Plourde and McKenzie Turner in Network Design, Kacie Chapman in Scrapbook Award of Merit and, for Public Service Announcement, Alec Staples, Joe Michaud and Gavin Hemphill.

The group enjoyed listening to the event’s keynote speaker, Michael Chase, and were entertained by hypnotist Bruce James.
This year’s state donation went to the Pine Tree Camp, located in Rome, Maine, where children and adults with disabilities can enjoy recreational activities. The club donated $100 to their organization.
As part of their community service project at home, the FBLA group collected canned goods and several other items and donated them to the Presque Isle Homeless Shelter.
Chapter adviser Kimberly Hemphill said the Presque Isle group displayed respect and kindness throughout the convention.
