Youth have several options during school vacation

CARIBOU, Maine — Matt Bouchard, programmer for the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department, has announced the list of activities offered during the upcoming school vacation April 16-20.

A popular new sport in the region will be showcased at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center as a pickleball tournament is planned to start at 9 a.m. Monday, April 16. There will two divisions — mixed doubles and doubles. Awards will be presented to the top teams in each division. The deadline to enter is Thursday, April 12. Anyone ages 16 and older are eligible to play.

Mat ball and wiffle ball are the featured games on Tuesday, April 17, at the wellness and recreation center. Mat ball begins at 9 a.m. and wiffle ball at noon. These games are for students in grades 3-6 and teams from other recreation departments in the region will be invited.

Bounce house day is Wednesday, April 18, with other communities’ recreation departments also invited to the wellness and recreation center. It is intended for those in grades 1-6 and will be offered from 10-11:30 a.m.

Caribou youth of all ages are invited to the popular Peanut Carnival, which will be held Thursday, April 19, at the Sargent Community Center in Presque Isle. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the bicycle raffle will conclude the event at 3 p.m. Admission is $2.

Also, the Aroostook County Dodgeball Tournament will be held Friday, April 20, at the Sargent Community Center. Recreation departments from surrounding towns will make the trip for the competition. Separate divisions are offered to grades 3-5 and 6-8. Registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. and the tourney begins at 9 a.m.
