LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone Police Chief Stacey Mahan is stepping down as interim town manager next week and former Presque Isle City Manager Tom Stevens will take over until a permanent replacement is hired.
Limestone’s Select Board appointed Stevens on Monday, and according to Mahan, who will continue on as police chief, the new interim manager will officially begin on Wednesday, April 18.
Mahan, who has been both police chief and interim manager since Dec. 13, 2017, said Wednesday that the decision was “absolutely” mutual between the town’s Board of Selectmen and himself, adding that Stevens is a “perfect fit” for Limestone.
In a statement released via the town’s official Facebook page, Mahan thanked town officials for allowing him to serve as interim manager, adding that he gained “valuable insight into the complexities associated with the position of town manager over the past four months.”
In his statement, Mahan emphasized the notion of coming together as a community to help improve the town moving forward.
“If there is one thing I would suggest to all of us is that we adopt the theme, ‘One Limestone,’” he wrote. “I hope when people hear this phrase it will put a smile on their face. My thought behind this slogan is to represent us building better relationships throughout the community and working together to build Limestone into what it should be
A meet and greet will be held for Stevens 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Limestone Town Office at 93 Main Street.
To help in the search process for a permanent manager, the town recently formed a citizens committee to help vet applications and ideally locate the individual best suited to the job. The committee, formed in late March, consists of three local residents: Gary O’Neal, Paul Poitras, and Joe McLaughlin, along with two selectmen: Fred Pelletier and Greg Ward.
