PRESQUE ISLE – A local woman has been selected the winner of a fund-raising raffle held by the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce over the holidays.
Beaulieu, of Chapman, and the owner of Wilder’s Jewelry Store in Presque Isle, never dreamed when she purchased her ticket that it would end up winning her a new scooter.
“Chamber members were given booklets of tickets to sell before Christmas. One of the members stopped in shopping for his wife just before the holiday and indicated he still had a few for sale. I figured I’d help him out and bought what he had left,” said Beaulieu.
That chance purchase resulted in Beaulieu winning a 2007 Metropolitan 49cc Honda, valued at approximately $2,000.
The scooter had been purchased by the Chamber from Harry’s Motor Sports in Presque Isle, with raffle tickets being sold for $20 each – the proceeds going to the Chamber to help with its operational expenses. Beaulieu said she can see herself using the scooter, when the weather warms up.
“It will be great for running errands. I just need the right wardrobe,” she said with a laugh. “I just need to find a short enough scarf. I’m kind of going for the Audrey Hepburn look.”
The person selling the most tickets also received an award.
“We presented $100 to the board member selling the most tickets,” said Allen Deeves, executive director of the PIACC.
The Chamber would like to thank all those who participated in the fund-raising event.
