PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The UMPI women’s track and field team set or re-established school records in six events during a meet at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday in Hooksett, N.H.

Casey Lovely, in her second meet, improved her personal best and school mark in the discus to 71 feet and 2 inches while establishing the school mark of 70 feet in the javelin. Her best discus attempt was an improvement of better than 17 feet over last week’s performance at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts.

Jennie Sanborn’s times of 19.74 and 42.51 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, respectively, broke both her own and school marks that were set at St. Lawrence University on March 31.

Chenoa Jackson established the school mark in the mile run at 6:53.56, while her 800-meter time of 3:09.23 was faster than her previous best, knocking off more than seven seconds, while also setting a new school record.

The Owl men placed 12th out of 17 teams. Chad Bartlett and Jesse Gonzalez competed in their first meet after just joining the squad. Bartlett set the school record in the shot put by over four feet with a mark of 33 feet, 1 inch. He also competed in both the triple and long jumps and the 200-meter dash. Gonzalez ran in four running events and was part of the 4×100-meter relay team which placed seventh. Travis Simpson, Jahvion Lockridge and Matthew Payan were the other legs on the relay team.

Simpson ran in the 200 and 400, Lockridge in the 100, 200 and long jump and Payan also was in the 100, 200 and long jump.

Paul Kaplan came within one centimeter of his triple jump school record of 37 feet, 4-½ inches. He also competed in the long jump, the 200 and the discus. Kyle Davis ran in the 800 and established the UMPI mile mark to beat at 5:15.62. Andrew Hunt set the initial steeple chase record of 12:05.12, good enough for sixth place overall and earning three points for the squad.

Other men participating were Adan Mohamed in the 800 and mile, Sam Carpenter in the shot, Mike Guerrette in the 100, 200, 400 and shot and Allen Stanback in the shot.

On April 21, the Owls will again be at Fitchburg State University for the Eric Loeschner Memorial with the meet starting at 10 a.m.
