PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — An ophthalmologist who owns numerous rental properties in Presque Isle recently relocated his property management office to State Street and is looking to move part of his vision care practice into one of the commercial spaces on Main Street.
Eva Kirk, property manager for CC Rental Properties and Builders, is excited about the plans of Dr. Curt Young of Presque Isle’s Vision Care.
Until the last few months, C.C. Rental Properties and Builders operated out of Young’s home in Presque Isle. Kirk, who also is an associate broker at Dobbs Realty in Caribou, said the 32 residential apartments that Young owns now will be managed out of the new office on State Street.
She said that after Young saw a need for both residential and commercial units in the city’s downtown area, he acquired and renovated buildings in hopes of attracting more residents to Presque Isle and promoting economic development.
“We have everything from smaller apartments with a living room and bedroom combination to three-bedroom apartments with a full kitchen and two bathrooms,” Kirk said. “We hope that the spaces can fit every type of budget.”
The apartment units are pretty much full, Kirk said, and new businesses have opened or have plans to open in Main Street commercial spaces, including Rose Wellness and a bakery that will move into the former location of Cafe Allegro.
Young also owns the building on State Street that houses C.C. Rental Properties and Builders, Wintergreen Arts Center and Second Chances Thrift Store and is renovating space in the former KeyBank building, which he also owns, on Main Street to house new Vision Care offices.
“He’s building new offices for himself and two eye doctors,” Kirk said, adding that the new location would be an extension of Vision Care and include an eye care shop to offer glasses and accessories.. She said the renovations were expected to be done in time for the move to occur this summer.
The surgical part of the practice will remain on Academy Street, she said.
“It’s always nice to see new businesses fill spaces on Main Street and we hope to have more retail business owners come to the area,” Kirk said. “Having our storefronts filled gives us something to offer to the community.”
