EASTON, Maine — Frank Whittaker, born on June 3, 1927, passed away April 19, 2018, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Skowhegan, with his son, Darrell, by his side. He was 90 years old. Frank was the son of Elmer and Laura (Henderson) Whittaker.
He served in the US Army during World War II and had 4 enlistments, and discharges in other branches of service. Frank farmed all his life and owned a farm in Easton for many years. One of his proudest moments, which earned he and his wife the Red Cross Heroes Award, was on January 8, 1981. During a blizzard, Frank saved 12 head start children, ages 3-5, that were enrolled in the Head Start program and brought them to his home for the night.
Frank leaves behind Irene Whittaker; and 7 children, Darrell, Steven, Douglas, Scott, Cindy, Diane and Dennis; and 9 grandchilden.
There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in Frank’s memory to United Veterans of Maine, 358 Washburn Road, Caribou, ME 04736.
