PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Faith Sjoberg, an eighth-grade student at Presque Isle Middle School, placed sixth out of 12 shooters in the 12-13 girls’ division at the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals, held April 21 at Loyola-Chicago’s Gentile Arena.

Sjoberg made 20 of 25 free throw attempts, which was four behind the winner, Bailey Finn of Livingston, Montana.

Sjoberg represents Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 and is the daughter of Kevin and Susan Sjoberg of Presque Isle.

In order to reach the national competition, Sjoberg had to win five contests — first at her school, followed by the lodge contest at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the Northern District finals in Bangor, the state finals in Fairfield and the New England regionals in Westbrook.

This was the third consecutive year that she has made it to the nationals. She finished fifth in the 10-11 age division in 2016 and took third in the 12-13 category last year.
