The baseball and softball season has been off to a slow start, but Tuesday will be busy with games being played throughout central and southern Aroostook County.
The slate of games features a doubleheader in both baseball and softball between Houlton and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln starting at 2 p.m. at the Shires’ home field. The second contest takes place at about 4 p.m.
Other games on the schedule include Katahdin baseball and softball at Central Aroostook, Fort Kent baseball and softball at Caribou, Southern Aroostook baseball and softball at Hodgdon, all at 4 p.m.
Greater Houlton Christian Academy baseball was supposed to play at East Grand but that game was rescheduled to Wednesday, May 23 as part of a doubleheader.
In tennis, Presque Isle travels to Caribou for a match that begins at 3:45 p.m.
On Monday, due to the rain that fell throughout the day, the only event that took place was held indoors at Madawaska’s Multi Purpose Center. The Presque Isle made the trip north to take on the Owls in tennis.
The Wildcat teams swept the matches, with the girls winning 4-0 and the boys claiming a 5-0 victory. The PI girls are now 1-2 on the season, while the boys are sporting a perfect 3-0 mark.
Singles winners for the Presque Isle girls were Hana Boucher, Miranda Bragan and Anna Robinson, with Gaby Haley and Jenna Ouellette capturing the win in first doubles. Both teams forfeited the No. 2 doubles match.
Andre Daigle, Mason Young and Jordan Bonville were victorious in the boys’ singles matches, while Isaac Madore-Gage Young and Austin Moreau-Elijah Russell prevailed in doubles action.
