In our last article we told you about a cat named “BC,” who had been diagnosed with cancer. After BC’s diagnosis we opted to bring him home for the time he had left. He lived two weeks after he had been diagnosed, it was not enough time.
But in those two short weeks BC ate very well, he was surrounded by love and he got to go outside in the outdoor cat pens and feel the sunlight and breathe the fresh air. BC was not in pain and he got to live life to the fullest.
Sadly on April 21, BC passed away. That morning when I arrived at the sanctuary I found BC curled up on a bench with his dear sweet friend Lizzie curled up on top of him. His breathing was labored and there was discharge coming from his nose. I knew despite our best efforts it was time to let him go.
BC was with all of his buddies and had been eating great which made me hopeful. That day was the turning point and it happened very fast. I gathered him up and we made the trip to Florenceville. After a review of his x rays and a thorough exam it was decided that it was time. At 9:10 BC was sedated and I was able to hold him, at 9:15 BC crossed the rainbow bridge it was quick and it was peaceful.
Saying “goood bye” is never easy so we will just say until we meet again. We love you BC. We will carry you in our hearts forever. Run free sweet boy you were loved.
With every cat that passes through our doors we cannot help but get attached. We care for these cats as if they were our own and before long we find ourselves falling in love with each and everyone of them. They each have their own personalities and quirks and they come to depend on us, and in some ways we begin to depend on them.
We depend on them to bring us their favorite toys or to bat at our sleeves as we leave the room. We depend on them to make us smile and feel better about ourselves, which they always seem to do. It is funny how these furry little creatures can bring so much love into our lives without even realizing it.
