Socoby speaks on law enforcement education

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Rotary Club met for its luncheon meeting on Monday, April 30, with David Socoby serving as the guest speaker.

Socoby, the guest of Rotarian Katie Hill, is retired from the Maine State Police after serving for 23 years. He is now dedicated to teaching students about law enforcement at the Region Two School of Applied Technology.

He focused on teaching attributes for success such as honesty, punctuality, ambition and stick-to- itiveness, and treating other people well. Along with the job skills taught in the program should help the students handle many life situations. He encourages the students to have role models in the community.

Region Two is a member of Maine’s career and technical education schools otherwise known as CTE schools. CTE offers many programs that are career oriented. The mission of Region Two is support the way of American life that gives every American the right and opportunity to develop their skills, abilities and natural endowments to their fullest potential.

Goals are set in the education of students to have entry level understanding and skills in the occupation that they choose so that they can earn a living and contribute to the community and to their families. CTE also provides options for continuing education.

Reading, writing and arithmetic are basic courses taught to ensure success in their employment. Areas of study include Early Childhood Development, Auto Collision, Culinary Arts, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management Technician, Automotive Repair, Electrical studies, Welding, Forestry, Academics and Health Studies. Dave Keaton is the Director of Region Two. Instructors are Alison Reece, Ammie London, Catharine Bither, David Socoby, Glen Targonski, Kenneth Winiarski, Richard Mitchell, Robert Greenier, Robert Zabierek and Deanna Blake. Education Technicians are Dale Thibodeau, Leanne Bither, Lauren Calbi and Josh Murchie.
