Local teams find some success in track meets held at Brewer, Ellsworth

Local track teams were on the road for meets held Saturday. Presque Isle was involved in a relay carnival held in Brewer, while Caribou, GHCA, Hodgdon, Houlton, Washburn, Fort Fairfield and Fort Kent were involved in a regular meet held at Ellsworth.

The Wildcats’ top girls’ performances were turned in by the distance medley team of Isabelle Jackson, Delaney Alward, Jenna Sargent and Madison Jandreau, which placed sixth in 14 minutes and 58.55 seconds; the 3×800 racewalk team of Jasmine LeClair, Elizabeth Deschenes and Kamryn Gilmour, which took fourth in 16:26.6; the 4×100 meter relay shot put team of Grace Bemis, Alexandra Walsh, Elise Nelson and Madelyn Wing, which was sixth in 1:06.85; and the 4×400-meter relay team of Maggie Castonguay, Clara Kohlbacher, Madison Jandreau and Elizabeth Moreau, fourth in 4:34.3.

The high jump team came in fourth at 13 feet, 2 inches; the shot put team fourth at 80 feet, 5 inches; and the javelin team fourth at 208 feet, 5 inches. Wing won the javelin at 101 feet, 4 inches and was fourth in the shot put at 29 feet, 8 inches; Nad Moreau was fourth in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.

Presque Isle scored 23 points, good for eighth place out of the 12 competing teams.

For the boys, the 3×70-yard shuttle hurdle went to the Presque Isle trio of Connor Michaud, Kyler Caron and Ben Ryan, who compiled a time of 30.87 seconds. PI, behind Damon Underwood, Brad Tilley, Carter Jackson and Chase Quirion, won the 4×100-meter relay shot put put in 53.74 seconds.

The Wildcats were third in the 3×800 relay race walk as Jonah Clark, Devine and Seth Roy came in at 14:57.17. PI also took fourth in the 4×800 relay with Gage LeTourneau, William Bridges, Max Bartley and Trace Cyr in 9:45.16; fifth in the distance medley relay behind LeTourneau, Cyr, Bridges and Bartley’s time of 12:34.21; and fifth in the 1,600-meter freshman sprint medley as Ethan Wydysh, Colby Carlisle, Jacob Devine and LeTourneau turned in a time of 4:30.99.

Presque Isle was fifth in the long jump (52 feet, 2-1/2 inches); fifth in the high jump (15 feet); tied for sixth in the pole vault (21 feet, 9 inches); sixth in the discus (262 feet, 10 inches); and sixth in the javelin (318 feet, 4 inches).

The Wildcats’ 40.5 point total placed them eighth out of 12 teams.

At Ellsworth, girls’ first-place awards went to JoJo Fields of Caribou in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.36 seconds; Emily Austin of Caribou in the 1,600-meter racewalk in 9:20.54; Alexis Rodriguez of Caribou in the 1,600-meter run in 5:51.21; Willow Whitten of Caribou in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.02 seconds; Paige Espling in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches; and Monica McLaughlin in the javelin at 111 feet, 5 inches. The 4×400-meter relay team of Caribou’s Whitten, Edie Shea, McLaughlin and Rodriguez also finished first with a time of 4:39.12.

Caribou was the meet winner with 157 points. Houlton was fifth with 36, GHCA sixth with 20, Washburn seventh with 16, Fort Kent 10th with 13 and Fort Fairfield 11th with 12.

Boys’ first-place finishers from Caribou were the 4×800-meter relay team of Evan Desmond, Calvin Mokler, Tom Pinette and Dylan Marrero, with a clocking of 8:56.96; Martin Heald in the 1,600-meter racewalk in 9:46.376; Desmond in the 1,600-meter run in 4:47.95; and Cory Jandreau in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet.

Caribou placed second to Mount Desert Island as the Vikes scored 118 points. GHCA was seventh with 14, Fort Kent eighth with 13, Washburn 10th with six points and Hodgdon 11th with five.
