PI-Houlton matchups headline Tuesday varsity schedule

Tuesday’s busy slate of baseball/softball games is as follows: Presque Isle journeys to Houlton, Wisdom plays at Fort Fairfield, and Central Aroostook is at Fort Kent. All of those games begin at 4 p.m.

Summaries of Monday’s varsity sporting events are as follows:

Tennis

Presque Isle girls 4, Madawaska 0 — The Wildcats won their second match of the season against the Owls on Monday at the UMPI courts.

Singles: Hana Boucher (PI) def. Katelyn Ouellette (M) 8-3; Miranda Bragan (PI) def. Alexis Cyr (M) 8-2; Anna Robinson (PI) def. Myra Barwick (M) 8-3; doubles: Gaby Haley/Jenna Ouellette (PI) def. Hannah Thibeau/Brittany Ouellette (M) 8-1.

Presque Isle boys 5, Madawaska 0 — The Wildcats improved to 5-1 by defeating the Owls in a shutout Monday at UMPI.

Singles: Andre Daigle (PI) def. Ben Hebert (M) 8-2; Mason Young (PI) def. Lance Lavoie (M) 8-4; Jordan Bonville (PI) def. Alex Daigle (M) 8-3; doubles: Isaac Madore/Gage Young (PI) def. Max Gendreau/Andrew Nadeau (M) 8-1, Austin Moreau/Elijah Russell (PI) won by forfeit.

Baseball

Southern Aroostook 11, Ashland 6 — Garrett Stilz drove in multiple runs with three hits and Jacob Brooks knocked in two runs in the seventh inning as the Warriors prevailed Monday.

Jesse Wortman doubled and singled and collected two RBIs to lead Ashland’s offense.

Fort Fairfield 2, Katahdin 1 Jared Harvey threw a five hitter and struck out 12 in Monday’s win. He outdueled Katahdin’s Cooper Drew, who struck out eight.

Isaac Cyr and Alex Sprague each had two hits for the Tigers, while Brody Guiggey doubled and singled for the Cougars.

Fort Kent 24, Washburn 0 — The Warriors blanked the Beavers in their first home game of the season Monday. Individual results were not reported.

Houlton 13, Lee Academy 2 — The Shires got a complete game, two-hitter from Tyler Bailey as Houlton cruised to a five-inning win over Lee Academy. Bailey struck out six batters and walked six for the Shires (4-1).

Isia Bouchard had two singles and a double for Houlton, while Ryder Graham contributed a single and a double and Keegan Gentle doubled.

Jacob Harriman doubled and Jace Smith singled for Lee Academy (2-6).

GHCA 11, Hodgdon 2 — At Hodgdon, GHCA’s Will Austin doubled, singled twice and scored two runs to lead the Eagles to victory. Austin Winslow reached base safely twice and scored two runs to help his mound cause as he pitched six strong innings, striking out 3 and allowing only two runs.

For Hodgdon, Nathan Tuttle doubled and singled, Wyatt Foster tripled and scored a run, with Elijah Matheson scoring the Hawks only other run.

Softball

Katahdin 14, Fort Fairfield 11 — Katahdin’s Lilly Cullen pitched the Cougars to victory Monday as she allowed five hits and eight walks, with eight strikeouts.

Leanne Fitzpatrick had three hits for the Cougars (4-2), while Hunter St. Pierre had a double and single for Fort Fairfield (0-4).

Fort Kent 20, Washburn 5 — Trinity Saucier-Pelletier, Sam Churchill and Carly Bragg had two hits apiece for the Beavers Monday, but still lost by a lopsided score at Fort Kent Monday.

Southern Aroostook 16, Ashland 4 — The Warriors took advantage of wildness by Hornet pitchers Monday to win in Ashland.

Four Hornet pitchers combined for 18 walks and three hit batsmen. Paige Vose, Alexis Hartin, Sydney Brewer and Selina Botting had a single apiece for the winners, while Olivia Tardie tripled and singled to pace Ashland’s offense.

Houlton 17, Lee Academy 1 — At Lee, the Shires notched their first victory of the season with the lopsided win over the host Pandas. Houlton improves to 1-4 on the season, while Lee Academy dips to 0-7. Individual results were not reported.
