LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone officials handed out four certificates to town employees for helping the community during a four month period in which the highway department was without a foreman.
The town had been short staffed since January, when Foreman William Thibodeau resigned. Since then, Jim Leighton, the water and sewer district superintendent, and Stacey Mahen, the police chief and, for a while, interim town manager, had stepped in to help with the highway department. Meanwhile, employees Derek Patten and Justin Evens handled the winter’s remaining storms.
In late February, Mahan announced that the town would be making an offer to a potential applicant for the foreman position. However, the individual did not accept the terms of employment.
Roughly one month later, Select Board Chairman Tom Albert urged town officials to expedite the hiring process, as the town had been without a leader in that department for far too long. After a long search, the town hired Jim Pelletier to serve as foreman in mid-April.
As a token of appreciation, current Interim Town Manager Tom Stevens and members of the Select Board publicly thanked those who helped out while the town was without a foreman during a May 2 board meeting, awarding certificates to Mahan, Leighton, Patten, and Evans for their hard work in early to mid 2018.
