Learn more about ranked-choice voting before June primaries

To the editor:

Maine’s June 12 Primary Election is just around the corner. I, for one, am looking forward to casting my vote. Maine traditionally has a strong showing at the polls, even during the midterm elections.

Many Mainers like me are interested in the new ranked-choice voting system that will be used with the primaries. This is a first for Maine, and a first for the country.

I know some voters may feel unsure of how the system works. That’s why we should attend one of the Maine Secretary of State’s upcoming forums to get our questions answered before the election. I hope you will join me at the Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle on Monday, May 21, from 4-6 p.m. to meet with Secretary Dunlap and learn all about ranked-choice voting.

You can also tune in to a forum via Facebook Live on Thursday, May 24, at 6 p.m. on the Maine Secretary of State’s Facebook page.

These are great opportunities and will help ensure Maine continues to have one of the highest midterm election turnouts in the nation.
