On Monday, May 8, from 4 until 7 p.m., the Washburn Memorial Library was filled to capacity with friends and family of Barbara Porter, center, as they came to honor her and watch the dedication of the library’s meeting room in her honor. Retired library media specialist Londa Brown gave the dedication address, welcoming all to the new Barbara Porter Room. “As I have shared news about this event around town, I have had an overwhelming sense of just how much this wonderful woman has done for this town,” said Brown. “She worked in the library from 1980 through 2000 and brought joy to everyone who entered the door.” The guest of honor enjoys the celebration with Ann Bragg, left, former head of the Library Board, and Carolyn O’Donnell, former library board member, who both traveled from the Bangor area to surprise her at the event.
