Presque Isle hosting varsity track meet

The first track and field meet to be held in Aroostook County this spring takes place at the Johnson Athletic Complex in Presque Isle Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Hodgdon, Houlton, Madawaska, MSSM and Washburn are expected to join the host Wildcats for the competition.

The Presque Isle and Houlton tennis teams meet up for the second consecutive day, this time in Houlton. The undefeated Caribou squads host Fort Kent in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

In baseball and softball, Caribou and Presque Isle square off for the first of their two meetings, beginning at 4 p.m. at Caribou High School. In baseball, East Grand plays at Highview Christian, with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.

Results of Wednesday’s varsity action is as follows:

Tennis

Presque Isle girls 3, Houlton 1 — Singles: Becca Mooers (Houlton) def. Hana Boucher (PI), 9-8 (8-6); MIranda Bragan (PI) def. Maddie Grant (Houlton), 8-5; Anna Robinson (PI) def. Morgan Graham (Houlton), 8-1. Doubles: Gaby Haley and Jenna Ouellette (PI) def. Emily Miller and Dina Koretsky (Houlton), 8-0; no second doubles was played.

Presque Isle boys 3, Houlton 2 — Singles: Andre Daigle (PI) def. Nolan Porter (Houlton), 8-4; Mason Young (PI) def. Tim Youngfellow (Houlton), 8-4; Houlton wins third singles by forfeit; doubles: Isaac Madore and Gage Young (PI) def. Jaron Gentle and Isaac Vega (Houlton), 8-6; Nate DeLucca and Nolan Jacobs (Houlton) def. Austin Moreau and Elijah Russell (PI), 8-1.

Softball

Ashland 17, Madawaska 8 — Shelby Stolze had three hits, Micayla Driscoll two hits and four RBIs and Amber Chasse two hits and three RBIs as the Hornets (2-4) outslugged the Owls (1-3) in Madawaska.

Kaitlyn Ferro struck out nine batters and earned the pitching win.

Riley Lausier singled three times to pace Madawaska at the plate.

Southern Aroostook 4, Fort Fairfield 0 — Southern Aroostook’s Kylie Vining struck out 14 Tiger batters and outdueled opposing pitcher Sara Edgecomb at Fort Fairfield.

The Warriors only mustered six hits off Edgecomb, but that was enough to remain undefeated. Vining limited Fort Fairfield to just two hits in a dominating performance.

East Grand 22, Washburn 0 — Hayleigh Shay and Kianna Caissie logged four hits each as the Vikings defeated the Beavers in Washburn. Jordyn Cowger tossed the shutout for East Grand.

Emma Johnston and Kassandra Farley had two hits each for the winless Beavers.

Woodland 21, Hodgdon 8 — The Dragons bested the Hawks in Hodgdon. Individual results were not reported.

Baseball

Madawaska 14, Ashland 3 — The Owls evened their record at 2-2 with the victory in Madawaska. Robbie Lausier had three singles to back the pitching of Tristan Cyr, who went five innings to collect the win.

Steven Bellanceau, who was tagged with the pitching loss, singled twice for the Hornets.

Fort Fairfield 10, Southern Aroostook 6 — Malcolm Langner and Jared Harvey had two RBIs each and Isaac Cyr and Alex Sprague each singled as the Tigers defeated the Warriors at home.

Colby Langner, Chris Gill and Malcolm Langner did the pitching for Fort Fairfield, while Gavin Vining tossed a complete game for SA and also led his team’s offense with three hits.

East Grand 14, Washburn 4 — Thomas Gilman pitched a complete game and Lendin Stoddard had three doubles and an RBI to lead the offense as the Vikings completed a sweep of their season series against the Beavers, this time winning in Washburn.

Konner Jordan and Aidan Churchill had two hits each for the Beavers, who are still looking for their first victory of the season.

Woodland 11, Hodgdon 2 — The Dragons picked up the win at Hodgdon. Individual results were not reported.
