Many sporting events are planned Friday and Saturday as teams in central and southern Aroostook County near the midway point of the regular season.
On Friday in baseball and softball, Calais is at Houlton, Central Aroostook at Katahdin, Washburn at Ashland and Madawaska at Fort Fairfield, all at 4 p.m.
In tennis, Foxcroft is at Presque Isle for a 3:30 p.m. match. Houlton is at Madawaska for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
On Saturday in baseball and softball, Central Aroostook is at Ashland at 10 a.m., Madawaska at Katahdin at 11 a.m., Presque Isle at Nokomis for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. and Maine Central Institute is at Caribou for a doubleheader at noon.
GHCA is at Washburn for a 10 a.m. baseball game.
Also on Saturday, the regional singles qualifier in tennis begins at 9 a.m. in Caribou. The top three seeds on the girls’ side are all players for the Vikings — Gabrielle Marquis, Ashley Matlock and Hailey Holmquist. For the boys, Parker Deprey of Caribou is the No. 1 seed, with Andre Daigle of Presque Isle No. 2 and Alec Cyr of Caribou the third seed.

Baseball
Presque Isle 7, Caribou 5 — The Wildcats erased a 5-2 deficit to win on the Vikings’ home field. PI junior Jonah Hudson made a huge impact with an RBI double and a single, while also picking up the pitching victory with two innings of scoreless relief. Chance Bragan doubled for the Wildcats, who have won two in a row after starting the season 0-4.
Carter Moir singled twice and Noah Hixon singled and scored a pair of runs for Caribou, which fell to 3-6. Camden Huck allowed only one earned run, but suffered the pitching loss.
East Grand 5, Highview Christian 4 — The Vikings nipped Highview Christian in a game played under the lights in Charleston. Individual results were not reported.
Softball
Caribou 10, Presque Isle 9 — At Caribou, the Vikings overcame deficits of 4-0 and 9-7 to defeat the Wildcats.
Caribou took the lead for good by scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kaytlin Waldemarson went 4 for 4, Brooke Moir had two triples and a single with three runs scored and three RBIs and Emily Alder singled and doubled and drove in two runs to lead Caribou’s offense.
Moir also was the winning pitcher.
Kayla Saucier tripled and knocked in a pair of runs for PI, while Alana Legassie added two hits and an RBI.
