CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou police have suspended their search for Breon Stroup, 21, of Rhode Island, who allegedly burglarized a Caribou residence on May 13 at 8:30 a.m.
Laura Adams, administrative assistant for the Caribou Police Department, said on Monday that a police station in Rhode Island called the Caribou Police on Saturday, May 19, indicating that Stroup had returned to his home state.
Adams added that the Rhode Island department did not state whether or not they had arrested Stroup when he returned to the state.
According to Caribou Police Sgt. Paul Vincent, officers almost caught up to Stroup at 1 p.m. last Wednesday, but he evaded them in a foot chase. Since then, police had been warning residents via Facebook to lock their cars and doors.
Adams said Stroup is wanted as a suspect in felony-level burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
Even on Thursday, Police had their doubts if Stroup was still in northern Maine.
“We don’t know if he’s still up here,” Sgt. Mark Gahagan said on Thursday, “if he’s back in Rhode Island, or if he’s trying to get there.”
