PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Theresa Laura Cyr, 93, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at a Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born on November 18, 1924, in St. Hilaire, NB, Canada, the daughter of Alfred and Rosa (Belanger) Albert.

She was a pioneer. She worked with her four sisters and her father at the Bates Mill in Lewiston, worked at Bath Iron Works as a welder, welding 4×8 sheets of metal together for ship hulls. Theresa learned English as a hostess at a restaurant in Bath and at the “Joy Inn” in Lewiston. She was the first police woman of the Presque Isle Police Dept. working from Dec. 1, 1964 until Dec. 1, 1989. No one escaped her ticketing wrath, not even Governor Longley. Her French heritage was invaluable as she used it every day giving directions to Canadian visitors.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Donald Cyr of Lille, Van Thomas Cyr II and his wife, Marcia, of St. Joseph, Michigan, and David John Cyr of Bangor; two daughters, Rosemary Cyr and Theresa Marie Talbot and her husband, Doug, of Presque Isle; two brothers and their wives, Joseph and Jeanine Albert, and Antoine and Mona Albert, all of Edmundston, NB Canada; grandchildren, Nicole Stolzenburg, Van Cyr III, Christopher Cyr, Jennifer Cyr, Timothy Willett, Mckenzie and Matthew Talbot; as well as several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Cathy Walton, Peggy Erwin, and Wanda Glovins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Van Cyr, and a granddaughter, Jessica Cyr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church. Interment will be at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery.
