The Mapleton Lions Club thanks the many individuals and groups with their support teams for coming and participating in the town’s annual Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony. The Club thanks all of the attendees at the ceremony as it was the high moment of the day when as a community everyone could come together to honor those who gave their all for country and the freedom we enjoy.
Next week’s edition will have photos and more coverage of the parade. Meanwhile the Mapleton Lions Club will post photos of the parade on its Facebook page for all to see and enjoy.
Year-round project
It is hard to be thinking about Christmas when the summer has not yet started here in Mapleton. However, this past week the Mapleton Lions Club prepared for Christmas.
Because Emera Maine is upgrading the electric power system for Mapleton and the surrounding area, the Lions need to make installation adjustments for the annual town Christmas lighting. Emera has installed new, taller (60 to 80 feet) poles through the town, which has resulted in the need to reinstall light brackets and electrical connections for the Christmas lights.
Last Tuesday, Lions Dennis Hoffses, Ron Leonard, Wesley Buck and Terry Sandusky began the reinstallation work. The light hanging brackets were moved to the new taller poles. Also the wiring connections, receptacles, and conduits were removed. New wiring and updated connectors will be made ready for installation as Emera and Spectrum Cable make the final relocation of transmission lines from the old poles to the new taller poles.
The club, through its fundraising, pays for all the lighting and associated materials as well as the cost of the electricity for the lights. All the lighting consists of LED lights, which replaced the old incandescent bulbs, and has resulted in a tenfold savings.
