John Cote of China was sworn in June 4 as chief of the Maine State Police. Gov. Paul LePate administered the oath of office in his Augusta cabinet room in front of a roomful of family and co-workers. Cote’s 82-year-old father, Morris Cote of Houlton, pinned on his badge. Chief Cote is a 29-year veteran, having served as deputy chief for the past two years, and is the former commanding officer for Troop F in Houlton. He spent the majority of his career in Aroostook County. He also served several years as a detective-sergeant investigating homicides. (Courtesy of Maine State Police)
