CARIBOU, Maine — Monica McLaughlin and Evan Michaud represented Caribou High School at the New England Scholastic Track and Field Championships, held at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire, Saturday.
McLaughlin, a junior, qualified in the javelin and had a throw of 103 feet, 11 inches, placing her 26th in the field of 33 athletes.
Michaud, a senior, qualified in the pole vault. On Saturday, he failed to place after not reaching the 12-feet, 6-inch standard.
This past season, both athletes set school records in their respective events. McLaughlin and Michaud both placed first at the Class C state championship meet held at Massabesic High School in Waterboro, June 2.
Hope Shea of Caribou had also qualified for the New England meet in the javelin but did not compete.
