HOULTON, Maine — TD Bank’s Houlton branch recently donated $500 to the Houlton Community Market to help fund the “Maine Harvest Bucks” program and the market’s family activities.
Maine Harvest Bucks is a SNAP bonus program where recipients receive a voucher to be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets.
The program is run by the Maine Federation of Farmers Markets and has supported the program for the past three years under USDA’s Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive Grant. Funding from TD Bank will be used to continue with the voucher program until future grant funds are secured.
The Houlton Community Market also plans various kid-friendly activities throughout the market season in the hopes of engaging families and making connections between the farmers, crafters, and the public.
To keep up to date on what is happening each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the market in Houlton’s Market Square, check out the FB page at http://facebook.com/houltonmarket.
