WASHBURN, Maine — Police are investigating a report of shots being fired earlier this week at a camper in the community.
Washburn Police Chief Rob Thibeault said in a written statement issued Friday that a resident of the Washburn Road reported June 19 seeing a pickup slow down in the roadway before hearing what he believed were gunshots.
Sgt. Michael Montpetit responded to the scene to interview the witness. The caller said that he believed the pickup truck was silver in color, but he had no further description. He said that the truck slowed down briefly before he heard three to four shots.
Upon further investigation, police found what they believe to be bullet holes in the unoccupied camper, according to Thibeault.
Additional evidence was gathered later when Montpetit returned to the scene to speak to the camper owner.
The investigation continues but police have a suspect, according to Thibeault.
