FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — “Tiger” Basketball Camp girls’ week came to a close June 29.
The week-long session was held at both the Lawrence Gardner Gymnasium at Fort Fairfield High School and the Fort Fairfield Elementary School gymnasium. Veteran Fort Fairfield varsity basketball coach Larry Gardner directed the camp.
Championship events and a family barbecue capped off the week of camp on June 29. The high school division campers performed a routine and T-shirts and basketballs were presented to each youth. Drawings were held for prizes such as Boston Celtics tickets and University of Maine basketball tickets.
During award presentations on the final day, Camryn Ala of Fort Fairfield earned the most valuable player award. She was also the NBA division’s skills challenge champion.
The Sun captured the team title, while Eva Calliores, Sarah McShea and Madison Seeley took the 3-on-3 title. Kira Fitzherbert was the 1-on-1 champ and was named best defensive player. Calliores was the top foul shooter and best rebounder and Madison Shields earned the hustle award.
In the college division, Duke was the team champion, Sadie Clark-Loose the 1-on-1 champ and Noella Thomas, Brooke Shields and Violet Morrison the 3-on-3 winners. Amelia Godin was the best foul shooter, while Anevay Adams was named best defensive player and Liv Adams the best rebounder. Blayne Tardif claimed the hustle award and Mattey Devine was victorious in the skills challenge.
For the high school division, the Wildcats were the team champs. Carrlyn Buck took the 1-on-1 title and was the choice as the top defender. Cadie Blier, Abbie Hopkins and Sara Cassidy were the 3-on-3 winners. Olivia Hopkins claimed foul shooting honors and Sheldine Condon took the best rebounder honor. Anna Griffeth was the hustle award recipient.
