HOULTON, Maine — Moose went to the vet yesterday and sadly he did not return back home.
Moose lost his battle with cancer and crossed the rainbow bridge on Tuesday, July 3. It has been a difficult and emotional journey and it is hard to put into words what the loss of his life means.
To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. I know that Moose is in a better place, a place where there is no pain or sorrow, a place where he can run free and just be a cat with no worries.
In my heart I know that this is the best thing and what is meant to be, but my heart is still broken. It is never easy to say goodbye to an animal no matter how many times you do it. Each and every animal that you rescue holds a special place in your heart and Moose is no exception.
There will be an empty spot at The Ark tonight but there will be a star shining so brightly in the heavens that it will make you smile and cry at the same time. The tears we are crying right now for this beautiful boy are a constant reminder that every life is beautiful and worth saving.
With the help of many of you we were able to provide Moose with the best of everything from veterinary care to accomodations. His final days were filled with love, fresh air and sunshine. Moose had completed his bucket list and he left this world on his terms.
Though the beginning of Moose’s life remain a mystery to us because he came in as a stray living on the streets, one thing that is not a mystery is how wonderful the middle and the end of his life became.
Moose was not trusting of humans in the beginning, but once he warmed up to you he trusted you and melted your heart. I am honored that I was one of the humans he trusted. We are all honored that we got to make this journey with Moose , we have learned so much.
Until we meet again Moose, gone but not forgotten, we will cherish the time we had with you forever. You inspired us to make a difference and always go the extra mile, and for that we are forever grateful.
