Equality Maine, which supports and advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Maine, is holding its second annual Dine OUT for Equality on Aug. 22.
Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, pubs and eateries around the state are invited to partner with Equality Maine to offer food and drink to help Mainers celebrate and support LGBTQ equality.
“At a time when our opposition is arguing that businesses should have the right to refuse service to LGBTQ+ people, it is critical to show Mainers that they are welcome, safe, supported and loved in their community,” stated a press release from Equality Maine about the campaign.
Last year, 44 businesses in 17 communities across the state, including the now closed The Vault Restaurant in Houlton, participated in the first-ever Dine OUT for Equality, supporting the organization by donating a portion of the day’s proceeds to Equality Maine.
Interested diners may contact their favorite restaurant to participate. Business owners who would like to participate should contact Dine OUT coordinator Emily Leppanen at eleppanen@equalitymaine.org, or visit the organization’s Facebook page or website at https://equalitymaine.org/dineout.
