JEFFREY PAUL SEWELL, DAYTONA BEACH, FL, AND HOULTON – Jeffery Paul Sewell, 40, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at a Port Orange, FL, hospital after a brief illness. He was born on June 11, 1978, in Houlton, the son of Herbert and Brenda (Lovely) Sewell.
Jeff grew up in Houlton where he enjoyed playing little league and then continued to play baseball for Houlton High School. He thrived on singing and playing instruments, including the violin which he started playing at the age of five. He graduated from Houlton High School in 1996. During high school Jeff sang in chorus, as well as show, jazz, and chamber choirs. He was named to All Aroostook and All State Chorus all four years. He continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono where he sang with the University Singers and The Maine Steiners, a male accapella group. He also sang in many traveling groups, touring throughout the country. Following his time at Orono, Jeff moved to New Jersey and shortly after relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida. While in Florida, he worked for many years at Crabby Joe’s; they became his second family. Jeff was a soldier in the Salvation Army and he won many music awards for voice and trumpet playing from them.
In addition to his parents, Herbert and Brenda Sewell of Houlton, Jeff leaves behind a sister, Jamie Sewell of Linneus, his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Lovely of New Limerick, his paternal grandmother, Fern Sewell of Houlton, and an uncle, Arthur Sewell and his wife, LaDericka, of Houlton, as well as several great-aunts, great-uncles, and several cousins. He will be also greatly missed by his Crabby Joe’s family, especially his managers Luke and Benita Zona and many close co-workers. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Lillian Lovely, and his paternal grandfather, Elbridge Sewell.
Friends called at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the Houlton Wesleyan Church, where a service was conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Robertson and Majors Karin and David Dickson officiating. Interment took place at New Limerick Cemetery. The family invited relatives and friends to a reception at the church fellowship hall following the committal. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Jeffery in a special way may make gifts in his memory payable to the Jeffery P. Sewell Scholarship Fund to benefit a music student.
