WENDELL ALLEN LYNDS, LITTLETON – Wendell Allen Lynds, 87, of Littleton, ME, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Wendell was born on June 8, 1931, in Monticello, Maine, the oldest child of John “Mike” and Agnes (Wotton) Lynds.
He was the president of Future Farmers of America his senior year at Houlton High School and graduated in 1950. He married Patricia “Patty” Taylor on June 26, 1951. Wendell worked with his family in the potato farming and trucking business. In 1973 he, along with Patty and his son Max, built and operated Lynds Truck Stop in Monticello for 15 years. He then became an independent trucker until he retired at age 83. He loved trucking and all the friends he made along his route. He cherished his time at Deering Lake. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After he retired, he enjoyed spending mornings with his coffee group at the Monticello Country Store and taking Patty to supper at the Brookside “Carl’s Place” Restaurant. He was a quiet man who never hesitated to help a troubled friend or neighbor.
Wendell is survived by his son, Max, and wife, Jane Lynds, of Littleton; a daughter, Janet and her husband, Joseph Rosa, of Portsmouth, RI; his grandchildren, Ritchie and his wife, Kendra Lynds, Adam Lynds and Lindsey Farrell, Benjamin and his wife, Sarah Lynds, Brian Rosa and his wife, Rovi Currier, Andrew and his wife, Stephanie Rosa; his great-grandchildren, Konnor, Addyson, Jacob and Drake Lynds, Paisley, Simon, Barin, Scarlett, Celia, Autumn, and Leo Rosa; as well as his brother, Glen Lynds of Littleton, brother, Al Lynds and his wife, Amy, of San Miguel, CA; and several nieces and nephews who he loved like his own children. He also leaves his beloved cat, Sadie. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Patricia Lynds, and his great-grandson, Taylor Wilson Lynds.
Calling hours will be held at Dunn Funeral Home, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral services for Wendell will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, at the Littleton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Straubel officiating. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A committal service will take place at the Littleton Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. the same day.
