LINWOOD A. DAGGETT, KITTERY – Linwood A. Daggett, 86, of Lyndon Way in Kittery, died July 24, 2018, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, following a period of failing health. Born in Oakfield, Maine, on August 19, 1931, he was one of eleven children to the late Clarence and Minnie (McLaughlin) Daggett and was raised in Sherman Mills, Maine.
Following high school, he began a life-long commitment to the service of others, first to his country, serving aboard the battleship Wisconsin in the Korean War, and later working his way up through the ranks retiring as a lieutenant. His last assignment was as Navy Exchange Officer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
After the Navy, he began to serve in law enforcement, working in the Department of Defense Police force and the Kittery Police, and later serving as Chief Deputy and Jail Administrator for the York County Sheriff’s Department. Early in his law enforcement career, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Anselm College. He continued his work at the sheriff’s department for many years, as a well-known and respected civil deputy serving civil process throughout York County and enjoying friendships with many local law enforcement officers and attorneys. Between careers and after retirement, he also enjoyed helping people with tax preparation, delivering cars for Starkey Ford and working at the parts counter at Gunnison’s Automotive in Kittery. He was a communicant at St. Raphael’s Church in Kittery and enjoyed country music and stamp collecting.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty one years, Marjorie (DeLellis) Daggett of Kittery; four children, Deacon Francis Daggett and his wife, Barbara, Anne Marie and her husband, Bruce Gerrish; Thom and Camilla Daggett; two grandchildren, Catherine Daggett and LeeAnne Gerrish; and a granddaughter-in-law, Heather (Bonneau) Daggett. He was predeceased by his grandson, John Daggett.
Friends are invited to visit with his family on Monday July 30, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. from the Parish of the Ascension of the Lord in St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church on Whipple Road in Kittery, Maine 03904. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Catholic Appeal or the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Care for the Daggett Family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
