The City of Presque Isle and Aroostook EMA (AKEMA) will be conducting a full-scale exercise at the Presque Isle International Airport (PQI) Saturday August 11th, 2018.
John Gibson, Deputy Director and Exercise Coordinator with Aroostook County EMA explained, “The focus of the exercise is on a multiagency response to a commercial passenger airliner crash with a high number of victims, but will also include an emphasis on communications and interoperability.”
Aroostook EMA and the City of Presque Isle would like to advise citizens of the increase of emergency vehicle traffic in and around PQI, and request that the public avoid the area.
This exercise will help test the readiness of area departments and teams in the greater Presque Isle area, including:
— The City of Presque Isle: Fire, Police, Public Information, and Public Works
— Presque Isle International Airport – PQI
— United Airlines
— The Aroostook Medical Center – TAMC
— Aroostook County Emergency Management
— American Red Cross
Aroostook County Emergency Management coordinates several exercises throughout the year, with at least one full-scale exercise annually. This full-scale training exercise will allow participants to practice their readiness and skills in a real-time scenario, and provide a basis to make necessary improvements.
