LIMESTONE, Maine — With the Aug. 17 deadline approaching for candidates to apply for the town manager post, selectmen agreed Wednesday to wait until their next meeting to review all applications at once.
The town has been searching for a permanent manager for about eight months, with first police chief Stacey Mahan and, then former Presque Isle Town Manager Tom Stevens, serving as interim manager.
The Select Board reviewed an initial round of applications behind closed doors back in mid-July but, without commenting publicly about why, decided to reopen the process.
Stevens asked during an Aug. 8 meeting, whether the Select Board members wanted to discuss applications as they arrive or all in one block.
Select Board Chairman Tom Albert said that reviewing all applications after the deadline would suffice, and selectman Fred Pelletier suggested holding the discussion in executive session, as the applications will contain sensitive information.
The selectmen agreed to review the applications during their next meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22.
Stevens said the board will not vote on a new manager after that executive session because this is “the beginning of the review process.”
