PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, local students had the chance to explore a bit of the world around them in a STEM Explorations Day at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
Dr. Jason Johnston, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of wildlife ecology, and Sukhwinder Bali, assistant professor of sustainable agriculture, organized the event.
Led by Johnston and Bali, the students hiked outdoors and studied birds, got their hands dirty with some soil, and explored DNA extraction.
The campus gave a “Well done” to both Johnston and Bali, who, along with Mari Glatter from the 4-H Cooperative Extension in Houlton, made this event happen for the youth.
