CARIBOU, Maine — Painters from Lee Merchant Signs in Caribou gave the Caribou Courthouse cupola, the white structure and gold dome atop the building, a new coat of paint this past weekend.
Aroostook County Facilities and IT Director Bryan Jandreau said on Monday that county government officials determined the cupola, which was last painted in 2007, needed another coat of paint when discussing their 5- to 10-year capital plan.
“It was starting to show wear and tear, so it was incorporated in our capital budget plan,” Jandreau said. “We had the money for it last year, but it looked like we could get one more year out of it so we decided to wait and have it done this summer.”
The project itself cost about $3,200, and Jandreau said there aren’t many more renovation projects ahead aside from some floor replacements in late August.
A water fountain on the lower floor of the Caribou facility recently malfunctioned, which led to some minor floor damage and mold in the sheetrock next to the fountain.
Jandreau said the sheetrock was replaced immediately and the rugs are going to be pulled out and replaced with a rubber type flooring toward the end of the month.
