Seniors group looking for new members

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Senior Citizens would like to invite other local seniors to join their luncheons and meetings that are being held each Monday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The group meets at Maple Tree Estates on the Hughes Road in Mapleton. Those who wish to attend are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch, as well as personal place settings.

Following the luncheon, the meeting often includes a guest speaker or bingo. Please note there will be no meeting Monday, Jan. 2. Regular weekly meetings will resume Monday, Jan. 9.

THE CHAPMAN RIDGE RUNNERS Snowmobile Club held a raffle in December. The lucky winner of a 6-foot by 8-foot ice fishing shack was Dennis Hoffses of Mapleton. The building was fully insulated with a metal roof and windows and built by the Building Trades students in instructor Guy Jackson’s last class at Northern Maine Community College. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. The proceeds assisted the students in buying tools for their first jobs and helped the club with the building fund.

A FAST RESPONSE by firefighters with the Mapleton Fire Department prevented a car fire from spreading to Todd Dempster’s Bagley Road residence Tuesday afternoon. When the crew arrived, the vehicle was fully involved. It took the crew about a half hour to extinguish the blaze — believed to have started in the engine compartment. Here, a firefighter carries a hose to the front of the SUV to put out flames coming from the wheel well. Though the vehicle received extensive damage, the home was saved. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
