Presque Isle girls win three more games,
remain undefeated
The schoolgirl basketball season is heating up as the calendar is flipped to January. Caribou is in the win column for the first time and the Presque Isle Wildcats continue their winning ways.
Two teams from the region are at the top of the Heal Point Standings in their respective classes. PIHS leads the way in Class B and Washburn is tops in Class D.

Here’s a recap of games played through Monday, Jan. 2:
Easton 41, Wisdom 32 — At Easton Monday, the Bears outscored the Pioneers 13-3 in the fourth quarter to record the victory.
Hannah Ferris paced the 5-3 winners with 14 points and Carla Halvorson added eight.
Tyra Michaud hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points to lead 1-5 Wisdom.
Ashland 49, East Grand 28 — The Ashland Lady Hornets notched another win on Monday night at home over East Grand.
Anna Paradis recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 steals to lead the Hornets by the Vikings. Marissa Chasse scored a game-high 17 points for 3-5 Ashland and Kayla Cote added eight.
Bethany Lindsey’s seven points paced 1-5 East Grand.
Central Aroostook 50, Fort Kent 49 — At Mars Hill Saturday, Sarah Grass scored with four seconds left in the game to give the Panthers the winning edge. Victoria McIntyre scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Panthers, including an 11-for-12 effort from the line. Rachael Grew hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points and Kayla Cushman added 10 points.
Sam Carapellucci paced Fort Kent with 15 points and Michela Desjardins added 12.
Both teams are now 5-2.
Limestone/MSSM 61, Wisdom 22 — At Limestone Friday, Stephanie Leighton’s 22-point performance carried the Eagles to victory. Daniele Pelkey scored 17 points, 13 of them in the second quarter, for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
Tyra Michaud and Vanessa Pelletier netted seven points each to pace Wisdom of St. Agatha.
Caribou 55, Ellsworth 49 — The Caribou Lady Vikings are in the win column after a road win in Ellsworth on Friday.
Becca McDougal tossed in 16 points to pace Caribou to its first victory. Delaney Williams added 10 points and Alexa Massey chipped in with 13 for the 1-6 Vikings.
For Ellsworth (0-7), Hailee Langley had a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds.
Presque Isle 82, MDI 43 — For the second straight day the Presque Isle Wildcats scored a big win over a Hancock County team.
At Bar Harbor Friday, Chandler Guerrette and Kayla Richards tossed in 16 points each to propel the Wildcats to their seventh victory without a loss.
Karlee Bernier and Krystal Kingsbury contributed eight points each for Presque Isle.
Hannah Shaw paced Mount Desert Island (4-3) with 12 points.
Presque Isle 72, Ellsworth 36 — The Presque Isle Wildcats continued their winning ways by posting a road win over Ellsworth, 72-36.
Meredith Stewart led 5-0 Presque Isle with 13 points. Karlee Bernier added 11 points and Chandler Guerrette chipped in with 10.
Morgan Card led 0-6 Ellsworth with 14 points. Emily Berry added six points and six rebounds.
MDI 59, Caribou 36 — At Bar Harbor Thursday, Hannah Shaw scored 12 points to pace a balanced Mount Desert Island attack that led the Trojans to their fourth win in six games.
Katelyn Tardie’s 14 points led 0-6 Caribou. Annie Collins and Alexa Massey had six apiece.
Ashland 52, Wisdom 42 — The Ashland Hornets picked up their second win of the season downing Wisdom in St. Agatha on Wednesday.
Marissa Chasse had 15 points to pace Ashland, now 2-4 on the season. Kayla Cote chipped in 13 points and Rachel Gillis added 10.
Ashley Beaulieu scored a game-high 20 points for 1-3 Wisdom.
Van Buren 52, Limestone/MSSM 31 — For the second time this year the Van Buren Crusaders have topped the LCS/MSSM Eagles in schoolgirl basketball.
At Limestone Wednesday, Parisse Rossignol registered a triple-double with 19 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds to spearhead the Crusaders to victory.
Amanda Allen paced 2-5 Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics with eight points.
Fort Fairfield 44, Fort Kent 35 — The Fort Fairfield Tigers picked up a big road win on Dec. 27 beating undefeated Fort Kent, 44-35.
Fort Fairfield (4-1) was led by Amanda Hotham with 17 points. Sydney Churchill and Nicole Giberson added eight points each.
Fort Kent (5-1) was led by Sam Carapellucci, who scored a game-high 18 points. Michela Desjardins tallied eight points.
Washburn 74, Central Aroostook 47 — At Washburn on Dec. 27, Carmen Bragg’s 28 points led the way for the Beavers as they downed Central Aroostook 74-47. Bragg also added three steals and four assists for 6-0 Washburn.
Mackenzie Worcester contributed 16 points, six rebounds, seven steals and seven assists. Joan Overman added 10 points and Olivia Doody posted eight points and seven rebounds.
Rachael Grew led 4-2 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill with 18 points on six 3-point shots. Kayla Cushman chipped in with eight points.

Presque Isle 78, Foxcroft Academy 45 — The Presque Isle Wildcats cruised to commanding lead, outscoring the Ponies 32-8 in the first quarter en route to a 78-45 home win on Dec. 27.
Krystal Kingsbury scored 16 points and Meredith Stewart posted 12 to lead 4-0 PIHS.
For 2-2 Foxcroft Academy, Hillary Kendall scored 19 points and Mackenzie Coiley scored 17.
Washington Academy 42, Caribou 38 — At Caribou on Dec. 27, Washington Academy outscored Caribou 17-7 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
For the 2-4 Raiders of East Machias, Mackenzie Foss scored a game-high 12 points and Kirsti Wright chipped in with nine.
For 0-5 Caribou, Rebecca McDougal and Alexa Massey each scored 10 points.
