ASHLAND, Maine — A Portage man is facing drug charges after being caught by Ashland police with an estimated $2,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine.
Officers charged Taylor Condon, 25, of Portage, with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, illegal attachment of plates, and violating conditions of release after they stopped him with a false motorcycle plate on Aug. 15.
Ashland police chief Cyr Martin said that Ashland police officer Laney Merchant stopped Condon after a report of him riding a motorcycle with a fake registration plate.
After initially taking off, Condon was stopped on Garfield Road and appeared to be trying to hide something, Martin said.
Condon’s duffle bag was found to be holding approximately 24 grams of crystal meth, which would have a street value of up to $2,000, Martin estimated.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency is verifying that the substance is meth through lab analysis, Martin said.
Condon was charged with possession with intent to sell, illegal attachment of plates and violating conditions of a previous release, and later released on bail, Martin said.
