MARS HILL, Maine — A 70-year-old man from Westfield died in an ATV crash in Mars Hill Monday evening, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Gary Webber, 70, of Westfield was riding a Polaris ATV north on the 633 Border Trail following the East Ridge Road in Mars Hill at about 5:40 p.m. when he left the trail and struck a deep ditch and patch of trees, according to a press release the warden service issued Tuesday morning. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the release.
Webber’s companion Patrick O’Leary-Plaud drove his ATV to the nearest home to call 911. An emergency medical service crew arrived and pronounced Webber dead at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the warden service.
Webber was the owner of Camper’s Paradise, a popular RV campground in Westfield.
